Ahmet Atay elected president of Central States Communication Association

Ahmet Atay, professor of global media and digital studies, communication studies, and women鈥檚, gender and sexuality studies at 69直播, was recently elevated to president of the Central States Communication Association (CSCA). Atay previously served as the association鈥檚 first vice president. He is the first transnational scholar elected to serve in this role by the association鈥檚 members.
The CSCA is one of the four regional associations of the National Communication Association and has more than 1,000 members. Atay was elected to serve as the second vice president in 2019 and served two years in that role, then became the first vice president during the 2022-23 term, during which he planned the association鈥檚 conference this spring in St. Louis. He chose the theme of 鈥淚ntersections, Transitions and Silenced Voices鈥 with a focus on IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) issues.
These issues will be a focus for Atay during his CSCA presidency. 鈥淎s the first transnational queer president of the organization I get to focus on initiatives that focus on IDEA,鈥 he said.
As the first vice president last year, Atay had Isabel Espinosa 鈥23, Colin Tobin 鈥23 and Kennedy Shelton 鈥24, all communication studies and global media and digital studies students, work as interns in the planning of the 2023 conference. It is Atay鈥檚 hope that more Wooster students will be attend the 2024 convention in Grand Rapids, Mich. while he serves as the association鈥檚 president.
The mission of Central States Communication Association (CSCA) is to unite and educate people with both an affinity to the central region of the United States and a scholarly interest in all areas of communication for promotion of their mutual goals and advancement of their field.
