Soup & Bread Gives $12,000 to Local Hunger Prevention Agencies
WOOSTER, Ohio 鈥 Soup & Bread, a student-run program at 69直播, recently donated $12,000 to local hunger prevention agencies in the Wooster area. Agencies included the Wooster Hope Center, Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, Trinity United Church of Christ breakfast program, the Akron-Canton Food Bank, and Meals Together at Wooster United Methodist Church.
“The Soup & Bread program is thrilled to be a partner in so many聽endeavors to help end hunger in the Wayne County area,” stated Nate Addington, interim director of interfaith campus ministries at Wooster and the program coordinator. 鈥淲e see ourselves as a critical partner in this effort with so many of our neighbors, and right now our biggest focus is on letting the community know that they are welcome to join us each week for our meal.聽We want people to see this as an opportunity to bridge the gap between the college and the community in so many ways.鈥
Starting this semester, Soup & Bread will be held in Kittredge Dining Hall (535 E. Wayne Ave.) on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $5.00, participants can enjoy all the soup and bread they wish, with $3.00 going back to the community to help alleviate hunger.
The College鈥檚 dining services provides the soup and bread and volunteers oversee the operation in which everyone is encouraged to 鈥渆at simply so that others may simply eat.鈥 Each week approximately 150-200 people are served and the amount donated varies each year from $6,000 to as high as $14,000.
